The Making of a Quilt

I am often asked how long a quilt takes – it is a very hard question to answer – when do you start the clock; with the general idea for a quilt that gets roughly designed in my head before I start picking out fabric colors and deciding on size to the tentative first steps of cutting the first pieces and working and reworking flower shapes and textures and colors to get the right feel…..But on this piece – I decided to try to keep track of the time – roughly.  So here is a general idea:  Approximately 32 hours of design and layout & 21 hours of basting & 35 hours of appliqué and quilting sewing and framing  = total of about 88 hours.
I am constantly taking pictures of my flower gardens – for reference, for inspiration and for enjoyment!  The photo of my Clematis growing up the trellis with red Beebalm inspired this quilt.
